Character Education/Social-Emotional Learning

At Aspen Elementary School, we are excited to implement the Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) curriculum developed by In Focus Education Group. This program is designed to support the holistic development of our students by enhancing their social and emotional skills, which are crucial for academic success and overall well-being.

Why We're Implementing SEL:

  1. Whole Child Development: SEL helps in the development of self-awareness, self-control, and interpersonal skills, which are vital for school, work, and life success.
  2. Improved Academic Outcomes: Research shows that SEL programs can lead to better academic performance, improved attitudes, and behaviors, and a decrease in negative behaviors.
  3. Positive School Environment: SEL fosters a positive school climate and culture, helping students feel more connected and engaged in their learning.

How Parents Can Utilize SEL at Home:

  • Modeling Behavior: Demonstrate social and emotional skills in your interactions with your children and others.
  • Open Communication: Encourage open and honest communication at home. Discuss feelings, challenges, and solutions together.
  • Resources & Activities: Utilize the resources provided by In Focus Education Group, including activities and discussion prompts that can be done at home to reinforce SEL skills. Each week, the parent guide will be posted here for your convenience.
  • Consistency: Reinforce the SEL lessons taught at school by incorporating the same principles and language at home.

WEEKLY PARENT GUIDE

Please note that the same lesson is taught in two grades. This to allow consistency across our school and allow teachers and staff to support concepts within their classrooms.

February 24-March 4, 2025: Identifying and Regulating Emotions

Parental involvement is essential to the success of all students. To learn more about the In Focus Curriculum or to follow along with lessons, please visit the Parent Portal and fill out the information box at the bottom of the screen: In Focus Parent Guides.

Also, In Focus is pleased to be partnering with the Cook Center for Human Connection. As such, you have access to parentguidance.org. This website is a free resource that helps parents find answers to help their child(ren). Their content is led by therapists who provide trusted and specialized courses, professional support and a safe community of parents helping each other. It includes a free “ask a therapist” feature. Visit www.parentguidance.org.

Together, we can create a supportive and nurturing environment that helps our students thrive both academically and personally.
